The RoToR does not require programming. The graphical user interface (GUI) is extremely straightforward and easy to use. Minimal training is necessary.
There are only 4 main steps to complete any built-in routine: Select Source Plates, Select Target Plates, Select Pads and Choose Program.
Routines can be repeated at the touch of a button. Two 'Quick Buttons' on the front of the RoToR make reaching for the GUI unneccessary during regular, high-speed operation.
| Startup. This is the Startup screen where you can choose to run exsiting routines, create new routines or run the RoToR in manual mode: |
| 1. Select source plates. We have selected to search and run an existing routine. Step 1 is to select the type and density of the source plates:
| 2. Select target plates. We have selected 96 agar as the source plate and now we select a target option. The Singer Assistant (bottom right) can always be turned on or off to display or to hide helpful instructions: |
3. Select pads: Select the type and density of the disposable Singer RePads to be used for the program. RePad densities 384, 1536 etc are not suitable for this operation and and so only the relevant RePads are selectable:
| 4. Select program: This reveals a list of all the programs that are compatible with the previous selections. They are split into two groups: pre-programed Singer routines, and a list of routines that have been programed by the user. If there is not a program that suits your requirements, you can make your own! |
| Run Program. Now we are ready to run the program. Advanced options such as mixing, pressures and speeds may be reviewed or adjusted by selecting the tabs in the central window, but generally this is not necessary because the defalut values are spot-on! |
| Load Pads. Simple, graphic instructions guide the user through the rest of the proces. The RoToR knows when it has run-out of disposables. Here is an instruction that is displayed when it is necessary to load more RePads: |
| Load Plates. Loading bays are colour-coded so instructions are simple. Singer PlusPlates can't physically be loaded in the wrong location so users needn't worry about plate orientation (the position of A1). |
In Operation. While the RoToR is in operation it always tells you exactly what it is doing, with options to pause or stop at any time.
| It's as easy as that! |
